Alabama National Guard > Resources > State Surgeons Office & Medical Detachment

This is an official Alabama Army National Guard web site which provides information concerning Medical Readiness information to military members and their families.

The Medical Detachment of Alabama (MED DET-AL) is a unit that was created following the de-activation of the 109th Evacuation Hospital in 1966.  The 109th Evac Hosp became the Health and Dental Clinic (Det 5 Medical) of the AL-ARNG State Area Command (STARC) and it was known to all as "DET 5 STARC."  The unit later changed into the MED DET-AL that we know today.

The overall goal of the Office of the State Surgeon is to support the TAG's Vision, Mission and Values by providing the following: - an integrated medical readiness team dedicated to mission accomplishment and individual soldier readiness - providing innovative medical leadership in a dynamic enviroment - assuring ready and deployable forces for federal, state and community missions
