Higher pay as an officer
How much more pay? Consider the pay of an E-4 with four years of service as opposed to the pay of a second lieutenant right out of OCS with four years of service. Per weekend: E-4: $273.04 O-1: $428.68
Prestige
Be a leader. Commissioned officers acquire leadership and management skills that are in high demand in military and civilian careers. An officer is, by virtue of assignment and training, a leader.
Greater Service
Challenge yourself. Not all OCS candidates become officers. In fact, only about 50% achieve this goal. By achieving this goal, you can look forward to greater service with more challenging responsibility by assisting in the planning and preparation of your unit's training.
Schooling Opportunities
Learn more. There are numerous service schools available for officers to attend after completing OCS. Officers assigned to Infantry or Armour units may have the opportunity for Airborne or Ranger training. Flight training is also offered through the National Guard.
